The Regular Forces Employment Association

Since April 2016 one of RFEA’s Regional Employment Advisor’s, Gavin Ball, has been working in cooperation with Finchale’s Veterans Services Team on site providing a one stop holistic service with a shared goal: to help people gain sustainable employment and progress into work.

Gavin said: “Like Finchale, we have an unparalleled understanding of the skills and ambitions that ex-forces bring to the employment market and have a proven track record of helping all ranks, trades, backgrounds and services to find and remain in work.”

RFEA The Forces Employment Charity have provided support to over 4000 veterans UK wide since 2015, a continued increase since 2009. RFEA’s service provides employment advice and guidance which includes ongoing support, access to an online suite of specialist job-finding tools, top tips on researching the jobs market as well as regular employment forums and outreach.

Andrew Wildish, Finchale Veterans’ Services Team Leader, said: “Having RFEA and Gavin on site at Finchale with the team has been great for staff and veterans as we now have the ability to access a wider range of employers and vacancies to provide additional services to referred individuals.”

As ex-forces personnel may sometimes require wider support before they can engage with employment services, Finchale’s one stop service is also able to address other needs beyond employment such as drug, alcohol, housing, financial or relationship problems. This increases the success rate of the individuals they collectively work with.

Service user Tom said: “The service I got from the team at Finchale has been great. They helped me to work out what I wanted to do and enabled me to sort out some personal problems that were stopping me from gaining work.

With the teams help I registered on the jobs board and got help to fill in applications for suitable jobs in my home area. Without their support and advice I may never have regained employment and I am very grateful for what they did to put me ‘back on track’ in the employment market.”

Finchale is working with an increasing number of organisations to enable it to provide people with the skills and confidence they need to access the job opportunities on offer.
